It works by inhibiting sodium glucose co transporter 2 (SGLT-2) found in kidneys. This results in removal of blood glucose through urine. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor, DPP-4 is an enzyme which destroys a hormone known as'Incretins' which is responsible for production of insulin when needed and reducing liver's blood sugar level when not needed. Thus, resulting in lowering of blood sugar.Therefore, lowering blood glucose level.
