It works by inhibiting sodium glucose co transporter 2 (SGLT-2) found in kidneys. This results in removal of blood glucose through urine. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor, DPP-4 is an enzyme which destroys a hormone known as'Incretins' which is responsible for production of insulin when needed and reducing liver's blood sugar level when not needed.
