It is also used to treat blood cancer, cancer of lymphatic system, soft tissue and bone cancer, cancer of neck,head, skin and lungs. Methotrexate is an antimetabolite/immunosuppresant works by suppressing immune system to help it stop attacking body's cells. This helps reduce the inflammation that causes swollen and stiff joints in rheumatoid arthritis, thickened skin in psoriasis or damage to your bowel in Crohn's disease. While use of methotrexate there is a loss of folate in blood. Folic acid prevents and treats low blood level of folate.
