It is used alone or in combination with other drug to control and treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor, DPP-4 is an enzyme which destroys a hormone known as'Incretins' which is responsible for production of insulin when needed and reducing liver's blood sugar level when not needed. Metformin is a biguanide, it works by lowering glucose production in liver also delays glucose absorption from intestine and increases body's response to insulin. Thus, resulting in lowering of blood sugar.
